Hi, I recently bought a used boat with a 1996 40 hp Evinrude (mod. E40TLEDS)
It was starting fine, but now the electric primer does not click or prime the motor when key is pushed in. Is there a fuse for this circuit? If so, where is it located?
It starts if I move the red primer lever to manual prime. Thanks in advance for your help. Don

While it's true there is no fuse, don't be in a rush to replace or rebuild it. There are a couple of things to check before doing that. Wiring and ignition switch are two. Disconnect the wire to the solenoid. Using a test light or voltmeter, turn the key on and push the key in while checking for voltage at the wire. Yes - go to next step. No - you have a wiring issue.

If you have power at the wire, use a short jumper wire between the solenoid wire and a +12V source (like the starter solenoid). If the solenoid clicks, its ok. If not -- now replace it. You can also verify if its coil is open with an ohm meter.

the key has to be in the "on" position for it to work.
