1987 Evinrude 15HP won't start

My E15ECUD 15 HP motor will not start. I have replaced the power pack with a new CDI 113-2285 and i now have fire. When i remove the plugs they are wet with fuel and when the spark checked all looks fine. I have checked the flywheel key and it is good. The only thing my motor will do is kind of sounds like a back fire, that is why I checked the timing key, but it was fine. What should the compression be and what else could be wrong?
The motor was running fine about a year ago and all of sudden just went dead. When i first got the motor it would not fire, but the new power pack solved that. Help
Did I install the correct power pack?

Welcome to iboats.

You may have switched the plug wires when you did the ignition work.

If not, check out "Outboard won't start" in Engine FAQs and let us know what you find.

Thanks for your reply, I will check the wires. Are you talking about the ones that come from the power pack to the coils?

Could be, but also could be the plug wires.

Thanks for your help, it was the coil wires from the power pack, my motor runs like a top now. I had to put a squirt of oil in each cylinder to bring up the compression, so later on i might do a rebuild. thanks again.
