sucked up mud!

Was out yesterday and although I was very far from shore I got in some shallow water and sucked up a lot of mud. Temp got to 160 before I was able to run it out of the shallow water. The temp dropped once I was out. At the end of the day the temp started to get a bit higher than normal. But did not overheat. What should I do? Thinking of pulling the thermostat and flushing awhile on the muffs. Also would this chew up the impellar and is an impellar job something I should be able to do myself? (someone with average mechanical skils)

160 isn't all that high. The impeller is really easy to change and should take you maybe 1 hour total to do the job. Just get the OEM manual from this forum and it will guide you throught he whole process.

160 is what you should be running at. You could back wash. And check the t-stat.

Pull the t-stat housing cover. How does the little by-pass hole look? It clogged. Any small stones blocking the t-stat?

Pull the hose off the t-stat cover. With a garden hose run water down that long hose to the outdrive backwards. Have someone observe what comes out the inlets on both sides of the drive.

In regards to replacing the impeller, when was it done last?

good luck

Pulled thermostat and saw no sand or gravel. Also flushed on muffs and did not see anything out of the ordinary.

When was your last impeller change? If you can't remember, and the boat and

drive are running well. Leave it alone. If it were my boat I would order a

impeller kit, with the housing. And install it next spring.

good luck

Spring 2009. My reasoning is, why leave a new impeller over the winter in the

outdrive? Your ok, i have seen impellers 10 years still ok. Next spring would be

ok. One last thing always store the boat with the drive all the way down.
