Or a deck boat. Try some other styles before you decide it's not for you.

Re: 1st boating experience...Did not see the FUN in boating

Sea sickness is a funny thing. Different circumstances can set it off and once it gets going it can be real hard to shake. I was out the other night doing some racing on a guy's Beneteau sailboat. Real purpose-built high performance machine. What with all the lines, winches, blocks, and other rigging I was learning to use I found myself getting queasy in the two foot chop we were in. I haven't been even slightly sick in the last two decades of powerboating. I think the problem stemmed from concentrating (and looking) by turns at the deck and up the mast as opposed to manning the helm and staring at the horizon, or at least up off the boat. You may have been in that situation as the sales guy was showing you stuff and you were trying to absorb it all rather than get a feel for the boat itself.

I would concur that it's worth trying different hull types and sizes as well as engines. There might just have been something about the unique combination of that boat's ride, feel, and sound that set you off. And while bigger, heavier boats have a more forgiving ride in terms of pounding, the slower, smoother rhythmn of the bigger ride may make the physical symptoms worse.

Good luck and I hope you find something you can not only live with, but come to love like the rest of us nutjobs do!

Re: 1st boating experience...Did not see the FUN in boating

I have a 21 foot boat and have had about 90 people on my boat. about 11 have gotten SEA Sick in the big swells of the Pacific Ocean. Of those 11 only one has gotten sick while we were running and even then he just did not feel well an got sick after we stopped.

When running the boat pitches in mostly one plane but after you stop the pitches and rolls in every posible plane andd this is when people get sick.

Every person that has gotten sick on my boat but thought they would not get sick on a 96 foot Party boat was wrong. Each still got sick. Most did not try the 96 foot boat knowing that they would not bring you back unless everyone on the boat voted to go in.

Also none of the people got sick on my boat even in big Lakes or San Francisco Bay only out in the Pacific Ocean.

Are you sure you did not get sick from CO2. Most I/O should be very quite and not noisy. Is it posible they had an exhaust leak or something like that?

Do you get car sick driving on a winding road in the mountains?

Do you get sick on Roller costers?

I spent 8 hours driving around winding roads on Mt. Rainier last week, but I was the driver and not the passenger. I have not problems with windy road if I'm the driver. I hate roller coaster and cannot ride those things. I can tolerate the kiddie rides though :D

try again and drive, see if you can tolerate that. you just may not be a boat person. i have a cousing, who spent 20 years as the driver of coast guard boats. got dreadfully sea sick, but loved the job, never go over it.

Either get a much, much larger boat (say a 26ft cruiser) or try other activities that are off the water, like camping or hiking.

Your original analogy was correct. We sell the Maxum boat here and its like a small car with a 4 cylinder. If you move up to a 20 footer with a V-8 your experience should be much better. Try to ride in some different boats and see what you think. Or possibly even a pontoon boat.

I can't help but wonder if the driver of the boat didn't trim the motor properly. This alone could be 100% of the 'boat slapping against the water'.
