I have a 2000 Sea Ray with a 135hp Mercruiser Alpha one in it. I took it out a few days ago and noticed that when I start the engine at home out of the water it sounds fine, but when I put it in the water I immediately noticed a rattling sound in the engiine. When I got out of the no wake area noticed that when I tried to speed up nothing happened.Even at full throttle the boat bearly moved. What could be the problem?

Re: Please help!

Well I found that the oil filter was some how bent a little out of shape and oil was leaking out.So i drained and replaced the oil and oil filter. After I did this it seemed to be running fine but when I put it in the water I still had the same throttle problems and when I took the plug out oil came pouring out so I think It may be leaking from somewhere but can't find where. I also cleaned the spark arrestor and changed the spark plugs. Everything else seems to look fine.

greg,

Read this post http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=220416

And repost your issue. It sounds like a spun hub on the prop. Or a bad coupler. But as the info you pasted is not complete enough, it's hard to tell. For instance, does the engine rev up as you advance the throttle, does the RPM remain low. Are you seeing a temp rise, at no wake speeds??

Yes the engine revs up and the rpms go up. The boat just doesnt advance in speed.

What he ^^^^^ said. If that does not correct the problem, you are probably looking at a bad coupler.
