Anyone knows where and if there is going to be any fireworks in those lakes? I have never been out during the 4th of july and thought it would be nice. Which is the one with the largest show? Any input? I bet is going to be busy and I worry about drunks.... But I think is doable. Any input will be great!!!!!

The catawba river basin seems to be back. Norman, Wylie and Mountain Island levels are good. I also googled for fireworks in lake norman before I posted the question. I guess some of these articles show up later... THANKS!

Did you ever end up going? If so, which lake? How was it? etc.... I live just outside of Charlotte and have only been on Wylie once when it was low and chipped my prop and had a tough time getting the boat back on the trailer. Not a terribly fun day! :p

Hey d_saum, I'm in the Stallings-IndianTrail area but usually go to lake Tillery.
The water level was full all last season and not ever crowded.
I have not seen a cop on the lake there in a long time and no one bothers you.
Its an hour drive but well worth it. 144 miles of shoreline and some great swimming areas with nice sand bars..;)

Its funny that you say that because..... I bought property out on Tillery! :D I own a lot in a small community out there with a private ramp, boat storage, slips, clubhouse, pool, etc... I was supposed to get out there last Sunday, but a flat tire put the kibosh on that real quick. I have another thread on that in the trailers section because my frickin tires/rims are such an oddball size. Anywhooo.... yeah, I go up there all the time and go kayaking with friends on Tillery. Love it! (apparently enough to have bought some property..lol)

All that being said though, I do still want to go play on Norman and Wylie some. One of my goals is to drive the boat up to the Rusty Rudder one night for dinner and drinks and such.

Oh and I've heard about one particular "sand bar" where most people hang out. I'm dying to check it out. I hear it's quite entertaining. :D

Haha.. You bet! How's the boating on Mtn Island lake? Some people have told me its "small" and "shallow" but I eventually want to check it out regardless. This is my first boat with a trailer so I want to hit all the local lakes in NC and SC. Any others you'd recommend?

I love MIL (Mountain Island Lake )!!! It is the smaller lake out of the Catawba river basin. We have 2 public ramps. Not a lot of traffic and people camp in the surrounding areas although it is not allowed... Fishing is not as good as it used to... It is shallow and I recommend to get a bit familiar with it before going WOT anywhere. I got in trouble the first time I went in getting in the wrong side of the danger buoy. It is a cleaner lake than Wylie. I think I have been to Tillery. I have to check a map. If you are ever coming to MIL let me know as early as possible and I will try to meet you. There are not any secret spots but the company will be nice if you dont mind it. I have a few waypoints (ramps location) and such that I can share if you are interested.
