When wiring up a new oil pressure gauge I inaverdently shorted a wire to the ignition switch which tripped the main breaker. I reset the breaker but I still have no power to starter, gauges or trim & tilt. Blower & bilge pump are ok. I checked the 50 amp fuses & both are good. Could the breaker be bad or have I fried the ignition switch? This is on an '87 OMC Cobra, 3.0. Thanks for your help.

Follow the voltage. Start at the breaker and follow it downstream. When you lose it, you found the problem.

Not sure what breaker you tripped but the OMC's have a 20 amp fuse (normally up under the dash) for the ignition circuit, it will be dead like you decribed when it blows.

Thanx Bob. I will look for that fuse, but I've never seen one behind the dash.

Turned out to be that the 15 amp main breaker failed. Replaced breaker {$8 bucks} & all is well. Think I'll order another from iboats, 'cuz ya never know.......
