1999 Searay Alarm

My 1999 Searay was running fine except the blower wasn't working. Took it into the local shop, they checked the wiring and said they thought it iwas a problem in the main panel and they can't fix it. So, I brought it home and after about 500 yards an alarm started going off. Oil pressure looks good, temp gauge is showing 160-170 fluctuating, looks good. Checked the gear oil reservoir, its about half full. Disconnected the 2 wires to it and the alarm still sounds. Please help, it's the 4th of July and I'm in worse shape than before.

One thing to remember. Alarm switches are not the same a s gauge sender. Disconnecting the alarm switches one at a time will show you which one is causing the alarm. Then verify the alarm is false or real.

Re: 1999 Searay Alarm

Thanks Don. The engine is a 1999 5.0 Mercruiser but I'm not sure of the model or serial number. It is back up at the shop. I can drive up there and get it though. Disconnecting the alarm wires for the gear lube was easy enough but I don't know how to disconnect the others for water temp and oil pressure. Is it something a novice can do? Thanks again.

Ok, the engine model is MCM 5.0 litre and the engine serial number is
0L379170. The local shop says it's running fine as in temperature and oil pressure and that the gear lube is topped up. Sea Ray dealership says that these 3 reasons are the only things that can cause the alarm to go off. They say it could be the sensor. Can I disable the alarm foe the weekend? Does anyone know how?

Happy 4th! Is there anything else I can provide to help with feedback?

Yes, the OP, Temp, and gear lube reservoir are the only alarms on a carbed engine.
Best thing to do is disconnect each one, one at a time till the alarm stops, then you will know which switch is causing the problem.

Re: 1999 Searay Alarm

I disconnected the 2 wires to the gear lube (still alarmed) but don't know where the other two are. Can even a novice like me find them?

Also, I've seen other posts around where alarms go off for other reasons such as impeller. Is that a different type of alarm? The sound is coming from around the main panel where all the accessories are turned on/off.

Thanks again for the help.

Re: 1999 Searay Alarm

Found it. Was a loose connection to what appears to be the main electrical box next to the engine. Must have gotten bumped when the mechanics were researching the blower problem. No alarm now...
