Foam under deck ??

Im hearing people talking about foam under the deck. When i replaced a section of decking there was no foam in my boat. Is it ok?

they place foam in several areas. what year is your boat?

in some boats, foam is a part of the structure.
in others its there incase the boat gets swamped.....(full of water)....that way the passengers have somthing to hang on to, rather than the boat sinking. (the boat will only sink to the top of the gunnels).

however....foam gets wet. and that water rots the stringers...(frame) and ony other wooden structure in the boat.

it really depends on what kind of boat you have, if you have an older boat. the foam may not be as much as a structural factor as a newer boat.....(mid 80's)
