Re: Fiberglas boats beter with roller or bunk trailer
TD is giving you good advice. I've only had experience with bunk trailers, and once set up right, they will support the boat very well.
I have read over the years of members having problems with roller trailers. Common problems are:
- Boat can roll off trailer and crash onto ramp if the which strap is released before the boat is in the water. Boats don't slide off bunks as easy.
- Rollers wear or fail over time and are more expensive and more difficult to adjust than a pair of simple bunks.
- Rollers put the weight of the boat on a few spots, so there is the chance that the hull can be damaged by a broken or improperly adjusted roller. That just can't happen with a bunk.
I have noticed over the years that bigger boats are generally on roller trailers. Boats under 19' or so are usually on bunk trailers.
