Before I get started I want to apologize if I am posting in the wrong forum and also for my lack of the proper terminology. OK here goes.
I have a 1987 Four Winns Vista Cruiser 245, 350 engine with an OMC outdrive etc. We just bought this boat 5 weeks ago and while pulling the boat out of the water I noticed the outdrive was not going up and that I could not get the outdrive up at all. Fortunately we were able to get the boat on the trailer and out of the water. The mechanic at the marina later checked it out for me and informed me that the hydraulic line has pulled from the transom assembly and the complete transom asembly would need to be replaced.
Being the McGuiver my buddy and I are we felt we would be able to retap the hole, add a new fitting and then add a reducer and reattach the hydraulic line. Upon further examination the other 3 lines also appear to be on the verge of coming out, ( caused by salt water exposure at some point by a previous owner).
I have found several transom assemblies online including ebay for sale and found one for $225 however the person listing this says the transom assembly will fit a 4, 6 or 8 cylinder hook up. I emailed to question if indeed it would and he assures me it will. My question to you all is, is this actually possible that I could find this assembly and it will work on my boat. Any advice, ( other than junking the omc all together LOL ) would be great appreciated. Will check back later and try to answer any other questions. Thanks in advance
