1996 50hp Johnson, 2 cylinder, 2-stroke. Cranks good and idles good. This weekend I ran for probably 45 minutes with no problems then it started losing power at throttle. It will pickup, most of the time, with choke - pushing in the key. (It has new plugs, fuel filter, gas tanks, fuel, fuel line, primer bulb and fuel connections at the tanks. I have also ran tuner through it as directed on the can.)

It did this off and on all weekend and a little a few weeks ago. The last day, on the way back to the landing it seemed to straighten out. When it was acting up the throttle acted odd, when pulling back off the throttle sometimes it would actually seem like it was trying to idle up a little.

Dirty carb, something blocked? Why does it run so good at times if it has a clogged carb?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Welcome to iboats.

You are explaining classic symptoms of a dirty carb.

Bath, clean and rebuild. Pay attention to the jets/orifices, as there is likely some crud/varnish in them. If you do not have one, a factory service manual would help for your first time. The folllowing may help as well. Good luck
