When I removed the lower unit to work on the water pump I noticed it was dry, no oil. I filled it but over the last day or so the oil is noticeably leaking from behind the prop....So is there a seal that has gone bad? And were does one find such seal. It's a 1957 18hp Johnson. Thanks for the help guys.

Yep, be prepared for a new reseal kit (about 40 bucks). Vintageoutboard.com sells 'em among other places. It's a pain but doable---I'm a total amateur and was able to do it with some help from iboats. If you have trouble with the shift shaft seal, and drive/propshaft seals, just holler back. I did--and they quickly helped me fix mine. It's worth it, those FD-11's are SWEET!
Good luck,
JBJ
