Took this boat for the 1st time in 3 years. It overheated and I had no power once I opened it up, only wants to go about 5mph if that. For the overheating issue I replaced the water pump and thermostat, fixed that. So as far as no power since I have spark in all cylinders I figured it has to be a fuel issue, the diaphragm looked pretty bad in the fuel pump so I replaced that. That did not fix the problem. Took it out last weekend same thing no power when it has a load on it. Out of the water of course its great. Any advice before I go nuts???

Always do a compression test on any outboard that has problems.
Check the comp and get back with results.Jerry

That is the first thing I am doing this weekend. Just was fishing for some other possibilities of what this could be. It's not looking to good though because the 2nd cylinder's spark plug is looking really black compared to the other 2.

There is a good chance if it over heated it will need a head gasket.A classic result of an over heat.

Re: 89 Bayliner Capri 85hp L-Drive

hello all, I just got a bayliner capri with 85hp L Drive. This is my first boat and marine stuff is foreign to me. I assumed it has oil injection but don't see a resevoir etc. Do I need to mix the gas/oil?

Thanks!
