swap 3.7 to 4.3

the mercruiser 3.7 engine in my boat , a thundercraft magnum 190 1984, is gone.

now im facing rebuild option and from what i see now is that a 4.3 (1290$) is almost half the price of a 3.7 (2200$) engine. would that be a good move to put a 4.3 in my boat? i know that some boat of my model have a 4.3 so it's probably gonna fit. the stern drive is alpha one. is there gonna be a big change in term of handling, power and fuel effiency?

what would that implie to swap. i mean is the cost for fitting the 4.3 and ajusting (changing) the electronic is prohibitive? did the 4.3 ia LOT heavyer then a 3.7? can i install a injected engine where a carburated one was?

i probably gonna have some mechanic help to install it, but i try to make the best overall decision.

Ayuh,...

There's Alot of variables in that Swap,....
And,...
That $1300. motor probably isn't in Full Dress either,...
$5,000. is closer to Reality for a drop-in bobtail motor, Fully Dressed...

If you Love the hull,... It's money Well Spent,....
If you want to repower,+ Sell,... Forget it....

The Cheap way out is to buy a boat that Has the motor,+ drive you Want,....
Then Bone it Out,.... Install the driveline in Your Hull...
I'd think $3500. would buy a boat with a running 4.3l,+ alpha drive....
Then you can Sell the Salvage from your driveline to recover the Cost....

well...

maybe the simplest thing will be to rebuilt the 3.7. i can get a rebuilded block here http://rebuilt.com/Inboard_Marine_Engines.htm. It doesn't seem that this come with the head. probably have to put another grand for that. im not shure if the 3.7 is as reliable as a 4.3.

but let's say i just find a used 4.3 engine. can i just put it in the hole and plug it to the existing alpha one drive.

Ayuh,.... Sort'a.....

I believe you'll find Differences in the inner transom plate, exhaust, cabling, etc....
