Does this wiring diagram reflect my engine?

I found this wiring diagram in another post for a later model 80 hp. It seems to reflect my engine which is a '68 50 hp 4 cyl engine.

Is this just the standard wiring for a 2 stroke 4 cyl mercury? Will anything be different on my 50 hp than this 80 hp?

No, your engine is a battery powered CD with i coil and this wiring diagram is for alternator driven CD with 4 coils, your engine does not even use the same color code on the wires.

my engine has four coils and looks to be wired exactly like this drawing, the title says its a '68 50 hp. is this title for a different engine? the '68 shouldn't have 4 seperate coils?

The first year 50 HP with 4 coils was 1976

there is a 7 digit number on the title but i don't see a number on the engine anywhere. where should the corresponding number be on the engine?

That depends on the year, the earliest were stamped into the block right above the exhaust cover, next they stamped the at the top of the crankcase seam port side I believe and the newest was on a soft plug above the port stud on the bottom carb. Nice Huh
