Have you pulled the sparkplug?
The motor may not have dropped into gear as you think, it may have locked up in the powerhead.
Clymer has a couple of books that list your engine:

There was oil in the gas, Right?

Re: sea king4 by chrysler problem

removed the head. looks like there were a couple of small pieces of the piston floating around in the there. look to have been broken off for some time. i think a small sliver of metal must have gotten between the piston and the cylinder wall. gonna try and get the piston out and see what the damage to the cylinder looks like. where can i get a new piston? if it is not salvagable is there a place to sell the lower unit and other parts? as i know finding good parts is gonna be hard and expensive.

Re: sea king4 by chrysler problem

This type of damage is typical for a two stroke engine. Since the piston is aluminum and the cylinder is steel then the piston will receive the most damage. If the cylinder is not scored too bad you may be able to hone it and replace the piston/rings.

However, if you have a broken piston ring (most likely) then the engine will not be rebuildable. What happens is that a piece of the broken ring will get in the ports and then pass to the top of the piston or half way and the piston will come up and trap the piece between the pistion and the cylinder wall. This is why the engine is most likely ready for the scrap pile, sorry.

What is your location? I would be interested in buying the complete carcass for a project.

its not a complete loss. a screw from the backside of the piston rod came off and somehow made it to the top of the piston. the cylinder wall is great, just some scoring on the piston. now just need to find a piston and rings. any ideas on parts.

Search for Nick's outboard marine on the net. That guy deals in Sea King parts.
If it was me I would part it out on ebay. Sea King parts are expensive and alot of them you probably won't be able to get.
You might try and find a complete non running or "ugly" Sea King on ebay for cheap and steal parts off of it.

I live in Spokane, Washington. What would the carcass be worth to you?

think i found a piston. seems that mercury has a warehouse with 5 pistons available (if their inventory is correct) the chrysler, force, mercury relationship must work.

It may have sheared the flywheel key either when it seized or from improperly torqued flywheel nut.204 inch pounds.

if the flywheel key got sheared would the whole works move while trying to start? crank turns, and piston has full motion when turning over by hand.

Squeeks, I had a 20 hp Chrysler Seaking for years, just sold it this year for a bigger boat/motor. I used Franz Marine, who has a link on chryslercrew.com. His phone # is 816-966-8085. He had lots of parts for Chrysler Seaking motors, you might give him a call. Advice was free, he was real patient with me.

If the flywheel key shears even partially it throws off the ignition sequence.
Of course you may have pinched a wire or somehow crapped up the points.
perhaps the stator plate?
Crank and flywheel bore need to be clean and dry key is just to line things up.
proper torque on the nut holds things in place.
