knockin 78 70hp evinrude

so it was knocking for maybe a min tops so we decided to have a look we got it ripped apart and so far we cant find the knock cause its opened to the crank we thought it was a spun bearing man im not lookin forward to puttin that back together any ideas wat the prob was thanks

ps this is my first time workin on a boat motor

What color and pattern is in the heads and piston domes?

Post pictures if possible.

How old, what kind of fuel did you have in it?

How much timing was it set at?

Is it possible that you began serious spark knocking?

Had you done any kiind of work to it just prior to developing this knock?

so it was a rod knock, new bearings. she runs again sweet now i cant get reverse (i cant push my lever back at all and it dosent engage in foward till like half throtel i have to push my lever in boat way 2 far forward and it slamed i think my linkige is off. i can disconectmy linkige and do it myself fine foward and reverse and it works great.please help

have you tried shifting it when it is running in the water. if it shifts at the motor , you do not have your cable adjusted properly.

yes i was in water at this time so how do i fix the linkige i tryd a little adjusting them but i didnt want to make it worse thanks 4 your help
