Trim won't come up

I have a 1981 Mercruiser120 and the trim won't trim up or go to trailer. The pump runs and we think we leaked out the hydraulic fluid. We can lift the outdrive by hand easily and hook it up. What we need to find out is where do we add the fluid? New to I/O's.

First off, welcome to the board!

Secondly, you need to find where the fluid is leaking and fix it.

Third - the picture below I believe is like yours. If so, you will note from the picture a fill screw and a vent screw. Make sure the outdrive is all the way down, then fill it at the fill screw position. The same pump you use for your outdrive fluid will work. More than likely your trim pump will use regular motor oil.

Fisherman, thanks a lot. That was what we were looking for and now the trim works.

Make sure to note that the outdrive needs to be all the way down. If you fill it with the cylinders extended there will not be enough room for all of the fluid in the resevoir and it wont trim all the way down...
