Are you sure it is actually leaking? Some of the oil that you put in the gas burns (smoke) and the rest goes out the exhaust. On top of that, that motor has crankcase drains that dump a bunch of raw gas into the water. All this mess goes out the exhaust. Just because the motor is not running doesn't mean the exhaust tube is clean. Any oily thing you stick in the water is going to make a rainbow.

I guess by now you have figured out that a 1962 motor is not exactly "green".

is there anyway to fix the the leaking gas problem and do newer premix carb models do this too?

So, when you say that your QD is "still running," do you mean that it's running well or running poorly. If it's running well, both at idle and at wide open throttle, then you're not leaking that much fuel for that engine. Check your fuel lines, to make sure they're not leaking anywhere, but if it's running properly, that's what they do.

On the other hand, if it's running poorly, especially at idle, and if it's chugging and the like at other throttle openings, then it's time to clean your carburetor and put a new carb kit in it. Those oldsters had cork floats, and they get heavy and can cause an over-rich fuel mixture, causing excess fuel to spill and the engine to run poorly.

So, how's the old girl running, exactly?

All two-stroke motors do that. However the newer ones only use half as much oil, so that cuts it down by half. Also, they no longer have the crankcase drains, so that part is also gone. Can I tell you that they no longer make a rainbow? Nope, can't say that.

WBeaton and others pointed out to me that the new synthetic 2-stroke oil is biodegradable (not that the old isn't). I like the synthetic because must degrade faster than normal and that it doesn't make nearly as much smoke or crud out of the exhaust. It's actually a VERY noticeable difference.
Just a thought,

ok well the premix carb models do that but less and do the newer etecs or optimaxs do that? since there oil and fuel injected? which do u think is better

If that's your main concern, buy a 4-stroke 9.9 to replace your QD. There's no oil mixing, and they don't spill fuel.

Of course, one of those will set you back about a couple of grand, at least. I can buy a lot of fuel and oil for that much money.

It'll be a lot less polluting, though, if that's a major goal for you.

Somebody else needs to get in here to answer that one, because my experience doesn't go that far. But I can tell you that those are MUCH improved in that area. Apples and oranges.
