disassembly of shifting/ignition handle??

I have a 1987 johnson 40 and i am trying ti check the wiring in the shiflting handle box. I took the 3 srews out and the allen screw that is the middle of the gear looking thing on the back but still can't brake housing apart-HELP

remove the handle, which the allen screw held. does your have the black pad, on top. if so remove those 4 screw, and the pad. now gently pry apart. get your camera and take pictures as you go. everything has to be in the right place to close.

If the handle seems to be stuck, put the allen screw back in, then loosen it about a turn or so. Then give the screw head a whack with a hammer and punch. The handle will pop right off.
