Help - Overheating problem!

Hi All,

I have a '91 Pro V 150 Yamaha since it was new. I run it in fresh water mainly. The last two years I have had limited time to get out. Last weekend I put in and noticed that my temp rose quickly while still on the trailer. The pump seems to be fine so I think it might be the thermostat(s). I purchased the necessary parts from a local dealer and proceeded to do the repairs. Unfortunately, when I remove the cover I couldn't positively locate the thermostats. Rather than taking more apart than necessary I chose to post this message. Can anyone give me a hand?

Thanks,

Fred

what leads you to believe the h20 pump is ok ? Most t stats fail in the open position meaning they are stuck open , not closed.

Well, I thought that if the motor is in the water and it is spitting water the pump is working. Shortly there after the temprature jumps over the normal running range. So I just assumed it was a stuck t stat. I have also considered a clog in the system. At this point I'm running out of ideas.
