I have a 78 Johnson 85 HP that is missing spark in one cylinder. Also, when i turn the switch to off, the motor still runs. I know the switch has been rewired and i tried to fix it, but before i do anything, i need to know if the wires are in the right position on the back of the switch. Can anyone help with my problems> I dont want to buy a new control box until i know it is bad. I had another cylinder that did not spark, but i got that fixed by cleaning the terminals. Any help??? Thanks in advance.

PS I have a book to fix the wiring, but it doesn't say which order to put the wires on the starter.

Re: 1978 Johnson Javelin 85HP no spark

Try swapping powerpacks from one side to the other. If the problem(no spark) follows the pack, bad pack. If not, switch the coils from one side to the other. See if you can make that (no spark) go to the other side. Otherwise, make sure you are getting good grounds on your coil that is not sparking. You might have to file the paint off. All of the grounds need to be clean and tight. For the kill problem, the black with yellow wire at the switch is the kill wire, it sends a ground to the powerpacks when you kill it. Make sure your ground to the switch is good. The connections must be clean and tight. Hope this helps.
