My daughter just turned 14 just started this year and for her first real boat time was able to get up on her 2nd try and by her 5 time was able to stay up for 3-4 min.:D

Boat a 2008 Larson sport 4.3 190hp NO TOWER
Wakeboard is ..
O'brien Vixen 137 with O'brien Nova Bindings

All her Friends with bigger boats and towers and more time out were shocked. Seem everyone thinks you need a tower to wake board . for tricks it is a definite must but to start out not needed.
Click for her 2nd try .:)

Well story sounds so similar. Congrats to your daughter!

Son was 13 last year.
1st time out. Up 1st, 2nd, 3rd shot for 5 - 20 ft and then on 4th time he was down the lake until he just plain wore out.

You need a tower when you learn to jump, and want more hangtime in the air..

Next year. the family has desided for me :D NEW BOAT :D
not to big 20 foot max.

As for now my daughter has been improving every time out , she now can cross the wake heel & toe side . and make a trip around the local lake 4.5 Km long.
My 12 year old son decided he should try as well using the sisters board.did good for 2 days so my wife bought him a board as well.

I need to work more OT:( just not on the nice days while summer lasts here in Alberta Canada.

Re: Who needs a Tower.

I've had a tower on my 19.5' I/O for the past 3 yrs.
This year we've been riding w/o it while it's being rebuilt --

As I've said before - I think the value of a tower is higher for storage/accessorization than the quality of the boarding.

My brother and I are both intermediate-advanced riders. I guess our best "routine" trick would be a wake-to-wake (or wake-to-flat) grabbed 180. MY big trick is a tantrum (backflip) which I land 3/4 of the time.

That being said -- at 32 years old, 5'11" and about 205 lb I can pull off the tantrum just the same with or without the tower -- but I sure hate having 3 boards flopping around the boat when we have room on our tower for 4 :(

I definitely like the tower, but it's far from a necessity for high level recreational wakeboarding.

Serria1, my cousin has the exact board as you and she loves it (and we like it too)! We wakeboard behind a Four Winns Horizon 190 with NO tower and it works awesome. My cousin got up on her very first try, and the rest of my extended family got up within only a few tries.

The "beginner" wakeboarding family absolutely does not need a tower.

I know a family who just bought their first boat ever (never done any watersports) and they got it with a tower. We were just rolling our eyes... especially when they started tubing with it.

Re: Who needs a Tower.

My 9 year old son is towed by a 14' Novurania RIB jet. The tow hook is 12" from the waterline.

I thought about having a custom tower made for the dinghy, I guess it really is not needed.

He'll ride all day if I let him.

You dont NEED a tower to get up on a board, i got up with out one. But once you start getting good, its alot lot better if you do have one. You will want to get more and more air, when you get better, and you need a tower to do this.
