I have a 1986 Evinrude 90hp V4. It has power tilt trim. Since I bought it, up on tilt trim has had problems. it works when it wants to. down works every time. sometime i have to start down then quickly switch to up and it works. but now the up doesnt work at all. down still works perfect. what could cause this, i have a factory manual, but i dont know much about the tilt trim thanks.

check your fluid level, sounds like you might be low. Also, it might have some air in the system and need to bleed the system. do a search to find out how to do that.

Follow the advice given first, checking the fluid level while fully trimmed out, topping up, cycling the unit 5 to 6 times, back to the fully trimmed out position, bleeding the air from the system, re fill, etc... until you can no longer add to the resevoir.

If the resevoir is fully topped up, ensure all connections are wiring pertaining to the TNT system are clean and polished. Then try swapping the relays. If the problem follows the relay, replace it.

It is extremely easy. The fill is the large slotted screw on the front face of the resevoir. Starboard side of the TNT unit.

Leave the unit trimmed fully out while filling, then cycle it 5 to 6 times as stated to bleed the air from the system. Then re check it.

Let us know what you find.

hi, had similar problem with the motor going down and not up. found was a connection problem at one of the 2 connectors on the power trim switch. just wiggle the connectors while depressing the switch and you might find the connecter at fault.

Does it make a sound when you press up? If it doesn't the problem isn't the fluid, It's electrical.
