Gents,

this is a silly one. I have a Mercury 90 Inline 6 which i believe is a model year 1986. I've only found one serial number sticker on the transom bracket, which is completely faded. Is the serial # located anywhere else on this motor? So far i've just been making wild guesses when buying parts, but i'm sure that'll bite me soon enough.

Sure miss that stamped tag over the steering assembly - no way that'd ever fade.

Re: locate serial number

Should be able to find it stamped on a plug on the engine block. Not sure what the plugs are called looks like a frost plug on a car engine only smaller, on my mariner 50 they are a silver color and about the size of a quarter. I am sure one of the more experienced members can tell you the exact location on your motor where it will be found. Hope this helps.

Nope. Outboards in Indiana are not titled. Unfortunately there is no difference between a lawn mower and an outboard around here.

It still stuns me that the only place i've located a serial number on this motor is on a thermally printed plastic label.

You would think that something that costs more than some cars would have more on them then just a little old sticker.
