Re: Transom Repair

Any one know what a good quality topside paint to paint the deck on the boat? Last year when I changed the gas tank on the boat I had to cut part of the deck to get it out. I reglassed what I cut out and now I need to paint the deck. That will be the last think left to do. The deck already had a semi textured deck and I dont want to get rid of that but I do not want the deck to be slippery when it is wet.

Transom is complete. Had the motor on Sunday. Did not think about taking pictures till I was almost done

Here are some pics

got some 1 1/2 aluminum from HD to make the cap for the transom.

the transom drain tube on both sides of transom. The one on the outside of transom has the stains on it that cleaned up later

All that was left after that was a good cleaning of the boat from all the leaves that were in it from the oak tree that is on top on the boat.

Now I am just looking for info on the correct topside paint so that I can paint the deck.

It has been an interesting project but not sure if would want to do it again at least not anytime soon, Was a very good learning process.

Think about it, the reason for the brass tube in the transom drain is to seal the wood transom, but you have no wood.!

It tidies the appearance up though.

You might experiment , try adding a bit of cabosil to that nida bond, see if it slows the flow rate down, that would help when doing a stringer with it.

Anyway, you're the expert now.

Re: Transom Repair

Finally was able to get the boat in the water on saturday to see how it would handle. It did great. In the morning the water was calm and by the afternoon the water was varying between 1 and 3 foot seas. Kept an eye on the transom and nothing moved at all. The only problem I was noticing was when on a plane if the motor was trimmed all the way down the boat would leans to the right side and if I trimmed the motor up about half way it would straighten out. If I turn the (I don't know if I am calling it the right thing) trim tab ( the round tab the bolts in place that is right above the prop which you you have to remove if you need to replace the anode)to the left a little would that help?
