83 Evinrude 25hp Won't Stop

[BLUEGILL20]

I Have A 25hp 1983 Evinrude Outboard Manual Start.
You Can Push The Kill Switch And Nothing Happens.
I Have Opened The First Connector In The Engine And I'm Getting
Continunity Between Ground And Pin "a"
Any Help Is Appreciated.

Unplug the kill switch, test the switch for continuity while pressing the kill button, if none, replace the switch.

or just pull the wires off the kill switch and touch them together and see if that works. But dont touch the wires or you might get zapped.

Did you touch the wires together just in case that did it? So if the switch is good then you'll have to trace/test the wires right back to the coils where they hook up.

FYI- I don't know if that year/hp motor has a rectifier..but if it does..be careful for sparking. Any sparks and you rectifier will be toast. I learned this the hard and expensive way.

Hmmm... good point, it has modern electronic or CD ignition, I was thinking older style, maybe that's not such a great idea then.

Having, or not having, a rectifier is a non issue in this case. The kill wire is made to be shorted to 'ground' to kill the output voltage to the coils, thus stopping the motor. The Normally Open kill switch is working OK if it shows open circuit at rest and shorted when pushed. Make sure one wire to the switch goes to 'ground' and is not broken with low resistance. The other wire should go through the harness connector to the power pack. Open connector and inspect the connector for corrosion.
