Looking to buy a new 2008 Glastron MX175. It is offered with a 3.0 MerCruiser Alpha 1 or a 3.0 VolvoPenta SX. Which would be better drive?

go with volvo drive there bullet prof. just talked with our volvo rep.and he said if any body had a drive failure call tech service. you'll have 90% CHANCE you will get a new drive and thats even if it's way out of warranty .merc will not do this.witch deal sounds better.

get whatever one you have better service with when it comes time for maintenence/repairs.
If your buying a brand new boat, both Merc and VP will last a long long time if you keep up on the maintenence and take care of the dang boat.
Keep this in mind, VP parts and repair is going to be much more expensive than merc. And there will often be some downtime with VP because of parts availablity.

Do a search in your area, if you have 5 VP dealers and 1 merc, then do the VP.
But if you have 5 merc dealers and 1 VP, do the merc.

They are both good.

I agree 100% with captJason about the service. That would be the deciding factor for me.

They are both good.
Especially with a 3.0L engine. If you was looking at a V8 with 300hp, the Alpha would be maxxed out, but with 135, you won't have any problems at all with either.

You just don't want to put yourself in the situation that there's only 1 or 2 servicing dealers in your area for the product you buy.
Its a common fact that not every shop rubs every customer the right way, and vice versa.
Make your choice by service availability, not the product.
