My search-fu is terrible on these forums. I search in vain for topics and manage to find everything but what I am looking for. Anyone have any good search tips or an archive of posts that they refer to?

Any and all suggestions welcome.

Uhhh tough one. Yes there is an archive but w/o the proper search words you are going to be buried in posts.

What specific item are you asking about? .....then concentrate the search in that forum.

Did you know if you use google many of the old iboats post come up too.

Re: Searching the forums.

At this time, I am not looking for anything in particular, I just want to avoid asking questions that have been asked time and time again. I know that sometimes will annoy the mods and that's the last thing I want to do.

I research so many topics, it's had to pin certain search criteria down. I try using quotes and that does not seem to work here.

As long as no one minds me asking questions, things are ok, but if the mods prefer you to search before asking, then I need to practice.

Ask away, if it has been asked and answered before, someone will point you in the right direction.

Re: Searching the forums.

My tip on searching for tech info. I first find the person that has answered most of the questions pertaining to the area that you need help on. Then search your info in that members name.

Example: I know Don S knows his I/O's well. If I'm looking for info on the helmet for a VP280 drive, I would search the word helmet under his name in the I/O section.

Searching usually will take time,,,,,,Maybe that is why the call it REsearch when not finding it the first time......Good Luck and we appreciate you going the extra effort in finding your own answerers...........SS

Be very specific about what you want to find in the search. If you get too many results then you just have to read, read, read. Then when you are done read some more. At least that is what I have been doing. If you alter the search a small bit (for example Johnson 40 hp 2 cycle try Johnson 40 hp instead). Too specific might not happen because of the person that entered the initial post.
