I recently purchased a 60 hp johnson outboard and I'm rewireing the harness from the selinoid to the outboard motor. I know that the selinoid has to be grounded off one of the small posts, (internally), on the selinoid and the other small post connects to the ignition.(Starter wire). What does the white wire coming from the points on the motor connect to?

Re: 1968 60 Hp Johnson outboard

I just purchased the repair manual for this motor. My thoughts were that if someone informed me of electrical diagram on this model I could spare myself the expense of purchasing the manual for this outboard. I plan on selling it when its fixed. I have several other outboards, just none of them are older Johnson models. I would still like to hear anything about the model if anyone has experience with them.

What's the model number? There was no 60hp in 1968.

The diagram should show you where the wires go better than we can.
Your description of the solenoid doesn't sound right either. One small terminal goes to the ST terminal on the ign switch and the other small terminal goes to the safety switch on the throttle lever....if it is a 1968 55hp. If that isn't what you have, start over.
