cdm ignition question

One of the cd modules and the wire harness for my 1996 force 120 outboard melted. I replaced the cd module and the wire harness and it now starts, but it back fires consistently. It appears as if the spark plug cables are not on correctly, but they are right. The motor ran great before the cd module melted, and I havent touched anything to do with timing. Any ideas on what it could be?

Re: cdm ignition question

Everywhere I look it says if a 2 stroke motor is backfiring consistantly, the timing is off. Is it possible that the timing woud be off if it was fine 3 weeks ago?

Re: cdm ignition question

Are you sure you didnt mix up the input/ output wires when you swapped in the new switchbox?

Re: cdm ignition question

There is a whole wire harness with plugs for each cdm. Cant mix up the wires for each plug and the plugs are connected to the right cd modules.

Re: cdm ignition question

I borrowed a spark tester today and found that the 3rd and 4th cylinders werent sparking. I then went through and swapped the number 2 position with the 3rd cdm module and then the 4th. If either 3 or 4 were put into the previously sparking position they did not work. My thoughts are the 3rd and 4th cdm modules are fried. Kind of ard to explain, but hopefully it makes sense to someone. I will keep this thread updated when I get the 2 new cdm modules.
