i am about to mount a TH Marine mini jacker on my boat. i have a 15 ft Tuffy tri hull that for some reason with a 28hp Johnson SPL the cavitation plate is 3 1/2 inches below the hull line. i have mounted a couple of CMC trim and tilts on other boats and i know that the set back changed the way the boat handled. this mini jacker is going to give a 4 inch set back. does anybody know if i should mount it so the cavitation plate is level with the hull or can i cheat it up an inch and still keep my prop and water pick up in the water at full throttle?

yes it does have the older style lower unit. are you saying an inch above or below the bottom of the hull?

i would not go more than an inch above, the water pump in that unit is high, in the bulge of the lower unit. i use to run my older motors with a 1x2 under the transom mount, in other words raised 3/4"
