Ok...Now I am lost. I have tried to fix this problem a few times, and I am just getting nowhere. My engine gets hot when idling, and the fix is to get the RPM's over 2000 either in nuetral or in gear. I have replaces the T-stats, Poppet Valve and Impeller with no luck. Where should I look next?

Thanks for the help!!!!

A water pressure gauge is a good tool to monitor the changes in water pressure levels under various RPMs, which would provide some more useful clues to what the problem might be. Even if you do not have a water pressure gauge installed, the attached troubleshooding guide might give you some more ideas as to various possibile causes.

I will leave it other forum members with more experience with cooling system failures to suggest (educated guess) what your particular problem might be without the benefit of any pressure gauge data. Good luck...

Yes I have a PSI gauge, and that is a good idea. I will definately take some notes next time I am out. Thanks for the chart!!

You could be sucking air. (base plate, gasket, or housing)

Or you could have a pressure leak to the engine. (tube seal either end)

The XR4 has fairly low water pressure at idle, and can't stand much of a leak in the supply.

It would help to have a water pressure gauge on it.

hope it helps

I have replaced the T-stats, Poppet Valve and Impeller with no luck.

Sometimes replacing only the impeller is not sufficient if other parts of the water pump are worn or damaged too.

The T-Stats needed to be replaced, but the poppet was actually fine. Just had some crap in it. I replaced it anyway. The motor is pristine. I may try and put the old valve itself back in because it was seated better. I did notice that the new valve itself was not as tight, but thought it would not matter. Maybe it does?
