I have a 1986 GT 150 Johnson. How do I check timing and how do I adjust the timing.

Re: Timing!!!!

It is my opinion that timing on boat engines do not change or need to be adjusted. You probably have one of 2 situations: Likely the flywheel key is sheared. Other than that, the centrifical advance ring is gummed up and does not move freely and just needs cleaned and oiled. Always check the easy stuff first. The flywheel key could shear from the prop hitting an obstruction and the inertia of the shock force.

One man's opinion.

Good Luck!

Re: Timing!!!!

I have had the flywheel off and the key is fine. The centrifical advance ring I have not. Thanks for the tip. If you can think of any thing else to try let me know. Thanks again!!
