I have a 1976 25 horse that skips under a load. The motor runs great at idle and fast idle but when you want to open it up, it will skip. This happened last fall and I sheared the prop pin.I have given a full tune up, points, condensers, all three coils and both plug wires. Plugs, fuel pump and rebuilt the carb. I went as far as to pull apart the lower unit thinking the gears were worn but they are new. I've timed the carb/points and tried changing the fuel. I thought it was fixed when I changed the fuel pump, but the skip came back on the return trip the first time out. Have I missed anything?

Re: 25R76E performance

I have 3 motors of this model.
When you say "skip" do you mean : when you put it on fast speed it looses power?
If yes I had this problem. It ran fine on low speed or idle.
The problem was that it was sucking air thru the seal between cranckase and cylinder block.
I took the cranckase off witout disassembling cranckshaft and cylinders and put new special silicon seal (red).
After that it worked fine.

When you say skip, do you mean it feels like it is jumping in and out of gear, maybe shift dog in lower unit, or does it feel like it is dropping a cylinder, ign or fuel?
