I cannot determine the year of my mariner, please help

Model: 40BM
Ser: 676BS000449

This is a short shaft, tiller steer, pull start. I am having trouble determining what year it is, I was once told around an 78-82 model, but I want to know for sure. I checked a list online, but came up empty handed. Thanks.

Did you try the model year guide on the Maxrules.com web site?

Max rules does not have Mariner serial numbers! The engine is a 1977

can you tell me how you determined that? or is it too complicated? I once got my head bit off in the johnson/evinrude forum for asking why, instead of just doing what a guy told me to do, so I understan if you dont want to go into detail about how to determine the year.

I just looked on the Mariner build sheet I have.
