Suzuki 30DT not performing well

Bought a brand new 2-stroke, tiller with short leg two years ago (still under warranty), but I'm not quite happy with the engine. Ever since first ride, it have had problems running at low speed. Quite often the engine dies and requires a lot of hard work to wake it up again - Choke is required. Further, running full speed in tough weather and high sea (8-10 m/s - not THAT bad, though) causes the engine to loose power momentarily. It feels like fuel is cut off for 1/10th of a second or so. The engine has been repaired - or attempted to - several times, but so far unsuccessfull. Last, the cab was replaced, not just 'cleaned' as all previous repairs.

I have now lost my faith to the engine, especially after having a minor rescue issue last week .... the engine died and could not restart. Fortunately, not far from the marina.

Do I expect too much from the engine; are Suzuki's just not that reliable, or do I have a bad unit - or a mechanic with lack of skills ???

Looking forward to hear back - my engine has been turned in for repair 3rd time this season.

Properly tuned and rigged the DT30 is a good reliable engine.

There is something wrong with yours. You need to insist that the warranty fix or replace it.

You better make sure they get that thing fixed before your warranty runs out.

My Suzuki had similar problems and it ended up being the fuel connector where it fits into the outboard. Wasn't fitting right.

Interesting. I do have had problems with the fuel connection before. The tube-part of that coupling was replaced in spring 2007. Maybe I should suggest the dealer to pay extra attention on this part. ... if the fuel doesn't flow free, the pump might not deliver sufficient amount of fuel to the carb.

Could it also be electrical problems, like ignition and/or timing ?

Re: Suzuki 30DT not performing well

If it lights up when you choke it it is probably a fuel starvation issue. Most likely the hose or connectors not sealing off. Have even had a connector at the motor, of after market variety, not opening fully when fitted to the motor.
Look also at the various ground connections in the motor and check for tightness.
I concur, these Suzuki motors are very good. Some dealer shops are not so good. They dont want to spend any time on you the customer.
