inline fuel filter

Can i put an inline fuel filter between the fuel pump and carb.I have a 170hp Mercruiser

Ayuh,....

Any fuel filters should be mounted Before the fuel pump....

what about after the fuel pump?Between the fuel pump and the carb im getting alot of varnish trash.

Bamaeddie,

Why would you want to route all of the crud through the fuel pump too?? Does yours not have a filter at the fuel pump? Need to get to the root of the problem and that likely means that you'll have to clean the tank! :( Sorry, but that is usually the source and there is probably more there than you want to keep replacing filters every few minutes or hours to remove. :eek:

Took the line off from carb ran gas into new 5 gal bucket varnish trash came out so i guess there is not filter in the fuel pump and i dont see a filter before the fuel pump.

In fact, I would add a fuel/water seperator. But bottom line is it sounds like the fuel in your tank needs to be replaced and the tank cleaned.
