I have a 1970 model 40 hp Johnson motor I am thinking about putting on a 1971 model Glastron V156. The smallest motor I have seen on one of these boats is 60hp. I am not looking to go fast, I just want to get out on the water. If I do this, am I going to have problems?

Thanks in advance for any input.

you should not have problems, just not fast. besure the glasstron is not water logged. the transom is solid. those older ones tend to have so problems.

I have a similar setup, get about 25mph with lite load. planes fine though.

I believe the max is 85 hp. Thanks for all the quick responses.

for proper performance, 70% of rated power is recommended, which is 60hp. but if you just want to get out and fish, and cruise. 40 will get you there, then you may wish in the future to upgrade.
