I have to repair 2 cuts ( Saw blade went through the deck into the hull when previous owners were rebuilding deck.) 1 is 6 inches long other in 4 inches long. Do I need to open these up to repair. What I mean is when I use the serch function all the threads it brings up has to do with holes not cuts and in most cases a bit around the hole is cut out.

Re: Cuts in hull needs repair

here is what I did. if you can get access to the inside of the hull, fill the hole with marine tex, and let it dry. Then on the inside I dished out the area around the cut, using my grinder. Then I cut some mat, about 5 or 6 layers going from biggest to smallest. Then used epoxy resin and applied it to the mat and hull, and just sanded everything smooth.
Hope that helps.

i had too repair two holes about 2 innches long after my removing my transom, lets just say i got a little carryed away with an over powered chain saw. and i found that it helped to put some tape over the outside of the cut becouse you get a closer to smooth finnish on the outside after filling the hole. i pulled apart some matt and mixed it with resin to fill the hole and then used 3 layers of mat and cloth on the inside.
