I have 2 holes on either side of the drain on the lower transom on my Bayliner (you can see how they got there from this post,

http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=264817),

Anyway, I bored one of the holes a little bigger with my holesaw to about 1 3/4" because the area around the original diameter was pretty gunked up. When I did that, I noticed the wood in there around the new hole was somewhat damp (tho not soggy or rotted), I originally had the idea of using some standed fiberglass (along with epoxy cloth backing on the inside), but I'm thinkin it wont work very well with the wood being that way.

So I thought about what else I might do, and the idea of an expansion plug sprung up. I thought I could insert one in there, tighten it down, and hopefully walk away with a watertight seal. Before I go ahead and tried that, I just wanted to run the idea past you pros to see if that would fly, or if ya'll might have an even better idea.

they make thru hull fittings, that have plugs, similar to the transom drain.
