Hello, I'm new to this forum, I've read through most of the existing post relative to my motor and issue and didn't see one posted that covered my question.

My VRO fuel pump recently failed. The VRO was disconnected before I bought the boat, so I want to replace it with a non-VRO pump. The original pump's part # is 438285 (the new replacement VRO is 438400 and costs about $400). A local boat dealer recommended non-VRO 438557. Is the flow rate of the non-VRO compatible with the original? Should I replace the pulse limiter as well?

Also, some of the fuel lines have s/s pipe clamps while others have wire ties. Which is the preferred clamping style to use?

thanks

A more current lift pump, now used on the Evinrude 2008 60HP models up through the 90HP is part number 5005462.

Thanks, the dealer had the 438557 pump available so I went with it. I had to modify the mounting plate some, but otherwise it pretty easy to adapt. Took it for a ride Saturday, it worked fine. Also found a split in one of the small hoses leading into the carb, so I replaced most of the hoses around there as a little PM. Motor idles a little faster then before, not sure if it because of the pump or replaced hoses.

Should I replace the pulse limiter?

The pulse limiter is not required but might help if there is a backfire, so I would say to just leave it. You might want to clean it; use hardware store isopropyl alcohol.
