methyl hydrate tainted fuel

Hi
Late summer 2007 I had a power loss issue with my 2005 F115hp Yamaha 4 stroke. A Yamaha authorized dealer diagnosed the problem as contaminated fuel and treated the problem by pumping out the bad fuel, installing a 10 micron inline filter and putting methyl hydrate into the fuel tank (quantity unknown). When I questioned the use of methyl hydrate the dealer assured me that a small volume wouldn't hurt and would remove any remaining water from the tank. The boat ran well for approximately 8 hours then wouldn't start. The Yamaha authorized dealer at the marina where I have my boat docked diagnosed a fuel pump problem and replaced the pump (to the tune of 900 dollars !). This new dealer also informed me that the methyl hydrate should NEVER have been used but wouldn't say whether the methyl hydrate burned out the pump. Yamaha Canada is of no help (my warranty just finished May 2008). The dealer that originally treated the problem is no longer in business. I have always winterized the boat myself and used Sta bil fuel stabilizer in the fuel but I am concerned about the long term impact of the methyl hydrate. Would the use of Startron fuel enzyme additive or cleaner be appropriate ? Which fuel additives are safe ?
Thanks

Re: methyl hydrate tainted fuel

I've been using the Startron product for the past year with good results. I have a 2006 F90. (Yamaha fuel injeced 4 stroke)
