I have a 150 hp 1990 Evinrude XP model TE150SLESB and the tilt and trim just stopped working. It has been sounding different for the past few months (like it was struggling a little) and today when I went to trailer it to my new house it went up about 2 inches very slowly and quit. It does not go down either and I can hear a quiet click noise for both up and down. Batteries are fully charged and power head was rebuilt just over a year ago.

Question 1 is does it sound like I need a new trim motor and how much do they cost?

2. Is it easy to replace on my own (I am not affraid of scraping up my knuckles)?

3. Where is the manual bleed and how do I manually jack up the big motor for trailering?

Thanks,
Marty

First thing to do is to lightly rap the side of the motor with a hammer, then re try. Short of that, jump the motor to determine if it is in fact shot. Apply 12Volts directly from your battery to the blue wire coming off of the motor. It should raise. Applying 12 V to the green should make it drop. If it does not do this, it will need to be rebuilt.

Pretty easy operation all in all, Im assuming you do not have a manual? I would highly reccomend getting one, as it will pay for itself a million times over.

The manual release screw is on the starboard side of the TNT assembly. It will have a C circlip atop it, and will need to be tightened/loosened via a standard screwdriver.

What brand of manual do you recomend? I will try the direct line to motor this afternoon and update.

Thanks,

Get a factory service manual. Ebay is about the cheapest spot to get one. The Clymers or Seloc will not be thorough enough for your uses.

Well I tried everything and no luck. Trying to find manual and was curious how much a motor would cost?

Thanks,

If in fact it is dead, bring it to a starter/alternator repair shop. They can rebuild it for much less than buying a new one. Some have been 10 bucks for me to rebuild, some 100. Either way, still less than new.

If it is unrepairable, you are looking at about 150 bucks brand new.
