1988 Force 85 hp- bogs out when accelerates

Hello Everyone,

Looking for some help for a while now. Here's my situation: My motor bogs out when accelerating past half throttle. If I don't bring it back down to trolling speed it will stall out but I have no trouble re-starting. The other day it accelerated for about 5 seconds then stalled out. I've replace the following- fuel line, filter, pump kit, tried separate clean gas tank, replaced both CD Boxes, rebuilt/clean carbs, new stator and flywheel. FYI- all cylinders are sparking, compression is fine, primer pump holds some pressure while running. I've had the idle and carb set by a mechanic. He thought everything was fine when it idled in his tank the other day.

Any suggestions?

I'm confused by the 5 seconds thing.

Did it run WOT for 5 seconds or it 'seemed' to accelerate for 5 seconds until it bogged out?

Pressure test the crank seals.

Leaky crank seals will idle all day long, and run up in rpm a little ways, less under load, before it bogs and dies.

It accelerated at 3/4 of full throttle for 5 seconds then bogged out. It only goes at trolling speed without stalling.

Tighten Your Carbs Until They Are All The Way Closed .the Back Them All Off 2.5 Turns.i Have The Same Motor And Had The Same Problem

When the engine bogs out, check your ball and see if it is soft. If it is, change the three check valves in the fuel pump. I believe that the alcohol in the gasoline is causing them to stick. I had it happen to mine and the symptoms were the same as yours. It would bog out but always start without a problem. I found I could keep it running by pumping the ball.

I have the sameeee problem. pumping the ball on mine does not help. she'll troll all day

I got the boat on the water yesterday. I hit the throttle and then when it started to bog out I pushed the choked in for a quick second. The engine hesitated and then took off like it should. I have to do this every time to get it to plane and hit top speed. Once it reaches wide open, it stays though. The primer bulb holds tight with pressure. It's starving some where.

Any suggestions?
