Air Horns failing intermittently

I have electric air horns on my boat, and maybe 50% of the time they do not work. I can hear the electric pump operating, but no sound from the horn. Other times no problems. I thought that it might have been inbound air pressure into the horn counteracting the force of the air from the pump but it fails w/o any wind and when the boat is at the dock... Any ideas?

Re: Air Horns failing intermittently

I had that problem once. bugs had gotten into the horn and built a nest. Plumb clogged that sucker up... Tried to clear it out but to no avail. Only could get one trumpet to blast after that and it just sounded plain wimpy to me. I replaced it and now I cover the trumpets with a pair of lady's stocking hose. It works well keeping the bugs out during storage.

Also I'd be sure water hasn't gotten into them. This will usually result in a baffled gurgling sound... sorta...

Good suggestion, I'll look for that... I dont think its water, cause they either work fine or dont work at all... so I can envision some bugs in there crawling around getting blasted with air or getting their ears blown out...
