Re: Unfortunate Names

It seems silly and childish to me to make fun of words and names from a foreign language that sound like, but have no meaning like, English words.

Come on JB, can't you see it as just a little bit funny? No one thinks these people are a problem, nor do they think their language is inferior, or that their names literally mean what they sound to an English speaking ear . . . hence it's just coincidentally a wee bit humurous, but then I did stay in a Holiday Inn Express in Phuket Thailand last night . . .

Re: Unfortunate Names

Those sound like perfectly normal Japanese and Chinese names, respectively. Wonder what some of our names mean in Japanese or Chinese.

That make you wonder what english names in other languages look like to them. But i think if i was one of them and moved to a English country i would be changing my name.

No joke, we had the Di ck family that lived in our area. The last two children were named Anita and Harry (and I think it was a cousin that was named Candy). And yes, I know them ... in school many years ago Harry (who was about 5 years younger) pulled a knife on me. I decked him and never had a problem with any of them after.

Your 100% right JB, cruelty to any other living thing is total wrong.

With that in mind all of the iboats memebers who have flown out to China just to corner this young man in the playground and jeer at him till he cries should stop it ;):)

I'm not laughing.. but here's one some of the more childish members may get a giggle from... She was the Russian Olympic figure skating champion.... Irena Slutskaya.... In Russia it's just a name.... But for an English speaker, it's unfortunate...

Chris........
