Possibly looking to replace my current CD player on my 25' Monterey. Do you all think I need to get one of those waterproof CD players even though it is inside my cabin?

The CD Player in there now is your typical after market car cd player, kenwood I believe, but I didn't know if these marine cd players are better with waves and rough seas than the normal ones for a car.

Any help would be appreciated.

They really skip and perform about the same, if it's inside you'll be just fine with a normal car stereo, if you're an ipod fan there are plenty that offer ipod connectivity or mp3 player connections that won't ever skip. The only thing is if it does ever get wet and fries then your warranty will not cover it.

An MP3 player is an excellent idea.
It doesn't have to be top of the line like an iPod though.
MP3 (only) players can be had pretty cheap these days.

I got one with the wired remote, really nice operating it from my dash. only time you have to do anything is to change a cd.

Marine CD players aren't really "waterproof"
The faceplates are "water resistant"
But the biggest difference between an "Auto" player and a "Marine" player is the circuit boards. The marine grade boards are coated to prevent corrosion
If you're in a salt air environment, I'd go the few extra bucks for a marine grade player
I recently replaced mine with a nice marine grade am/fm/CD player that I got on e-Bay for $45
No AUX in though, so the MP3/ I-Pod option isn't readily available

It's not the water but the humidity that destroys your electronics. I was going through car stereos about every 3 years. You would open them up and they would be green inside.

I installed a JBL MR 35 in my overhead electronics box 3 years ago and it?s still going strong. I've yet to hear it skip even when running in some pretty nasty stuff.

As for the MP3, unless it?s made for a marine environment I wouldn?t go there. Ask my daughter about what happened to the Ipod that she left on the boat from one weekend to the next. :(
