Whether Fox has proof or not, what bothers me is that the IOC has chosen to basically ignore this issue rather than take the protests of other teams seriously. Certainly there must be a way to prove their ages once and for all.

The IOC will decide if that is proof. Until then, innocent until proven??

JB,

I think the issue is far beyond any mis-representation by the Chinese. This has very serious and far-reaching implications about state sanctioned manipulation of 'official' information via the internet.

This is a subject we should all be very concerned about. Over the past 20 years our lives have become more and more entwined with accessible information. If that information can the tampered with, how safe are we all?

BEIJING (AP)?The International Olympic Committee said Friday it had asked gymnastics officials to investigate whether the Chinese women?s gymnastics team that won the gold medal had underage athletes, saying ?more information has come to light.?

?We?ve asked the gymnastics federation to look into it further,? IOC spokeswoman Giselle Davies said. ?If there is a question mark and we have a concern, which we do, we ask the governing body of any sport to look into it.?

It was not immediately clear what new information prompted the IOC to act now, three days after the gymnastics competition ended.
Messages for the International Gymnastics Federation were not immediately returned.

The FIG has said repeatedly that a passport is the ?accepted proof of a gymnast?s eligibility,? and that China?s gymnasts have presented ones that show they are age eligible. The IOC also checked the girls? passports and deemed them valid.

A gymnast must be 16 in an Olympic year to compete at the games. But questions about the ages of at least three of the athletes have persisted. Online records and media reports suggest three Chinese gymnasts? He Kexin, Jiang Yuyuan and Jang Yilin?may be as young as 14.
The IOC had said previously that it had verified the passports of all athletes competing at the games.

A Canadian girl in kick boxing clearly won her match against the opponent. Many coaches came up to her coach and told him to protest. What it looked like to them is the Chinese judge caused her to loose becouse her opponent would be an easier match for China than the Canadian girl. I don't like saying things like this but i watched the match and she kicked her but and never scored a point. Out of three judges the Chinese judge was the only one to miss the points scored.

Proof the Chinese cheated? When I watched the gymnastics, I truly doubt they were all 16 (or almost 16 -- one won't turn 16 until December if I remember correctly, but that's still legal). But I have to depend on the IOC. My impressions really don't matter.

Puddle Jumper, there have always been political implications in almost any sports competition -- and not just the Olympics. Even back in Little League baseball, didn't you always suspect the umpires were slanted toward your opponent?

And consider the pattern of violence at international soccer competition?

Any time judging is involved, whether scoring, calling safe/out, etc there is always a subjective element. Actually, I have to admire the IOC for their efforts and dedication. They won't be perfect, but they are trying. (and some scoffers would say very trying:p)

I am very glad they are investigating more. That definitely lends credence to the process and standards.

I know what your saying. Back in little league we cought a umpire from a larger town throwing the game in favor of there team. But you know its the Olympics and its suppose to be unbiased. Just the best of the best. I guess
we just live in a corrupted world.

Don't look for any resolution before the end of these Olympic Games.............................In my opinion the IOC will reserve announcing the findings until after the closing ceremony. The reasoning behind this action I believe is to allow China to close the games without losing face.

Then If the Chinese government is found guilty of manipulating the information and issuing false documents. That would open the door to more speculation, allegations, and criticism regarding the IOC's original decision to award the Olympics to China in the first place.
